Bomb at Power Plant Kills 2 Employees in Afghanistan

"KANDAHAR, Afghanistan — A remote-controlled bomb exploded Saturday near a power plant in southern Afghanistan, killing two employees, a policeman said.

The bomb was hidden near the wall of the plant in the town of Gereshk, said Helmand provincial police chief Mohammad Hussein Andiwal.

In addition to the dead, six employees and two civilians were wounded, he said.

Andiwal said the plant machinery was slightly damaged, but the power supply was not interrupted.

Helmand, the biggest opium poppy-growing region in the world, has been the scene of some of the bloodiest battles between insurgents and international troops in recent years."

"I don't know what it's like now, but back in 1978 the Bruce Nuclear Power Plant sat brightly lit and isolated in an area of total darkness. This photo was taken on the road leading into the plant while visiting friends in nearby Tiverton.

The squiggly light in the foreground was my friend Dave walking about on the road holding a flashlight suring the long exposure. You can see him and his bell bottoms more clearly in the large version."

Druck 1830 Level Pressure Sensor at The Sodium Hypochloride Tank

On last Friday, I went around power plant to check some instrumentations. This sodium hypochloride tank actually located behind the ECP and it's a part of the chlorine process. We have two hypochloride tank in our power plant and the tanks are parallel. Meaning that the level should be the same level except the operators close the equalize valve.

PTX 1830 Druck Level Sensor

This is the original level sensor that we have at the hypochloride tank. The range is 10mH2O g. No isolating valve was installed to the level sensor which cause us problem to change during tank in operating.

Foxboro Pressure Transmitter

While this is another option that we used to replace the faulty level sensor. This is only temporary but currently it is also not available or cannot be used because the application is not suitable with strong chlorine which caused the damaged to diaphragm.

I am not so sure about the specification and I will try find it later. So don't forget to come back to know more about this transducer.

TNB Signs MoU on Biomass Plant at Jengka Pahang

Tenaga Nasional Berhad, TNB is the largest electricity utility company in Malaysia and also the largest power company in Southeast Asia has signed a memorandum of understanding with Felda Palm Industries Sdn Bhd and Japan’s JPower to develop a biomass power plant at Jengka, Pahang. Further details according to Bernama;

" KUALA LUMPUR, March 18 (Bernama) -- Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Felda Palm Industries Sdn Bhd and Japan's J-Power to develop a biomass power plant at Jengka, Pahang.

The renewable energy project, which is expected to be completed by end-2010, will generate electrical energy sourced from palm oil empty fruit bunches (EFB).

The plant, to be developed on 4.6 hectares, will house EFB processing and storage areas, a biomass boiler firing on EFB fuel, a steam turbine complete with the generator unit and other related auxiliaries.

In a statement here today, TNB said upon completion the plant will have a generation capacity of 10 megawatts and would be connected to its 11kV grid network that supplied electricity to the local surrounding areas.

Yesterday, one of our instrument technician found that this power supply module 1746-P2 was defected after checking overall Water Treatment Plant System overall. At the morning, the unit operator complaint that the WTP cannot run due to some readings at the SCADA display is not correct. Earlier the indicator red light LED in front of the power supply module not ON. Tested and confirmed that the module has a problem. Change with new one then OK.

It is already more than one month after I posting about this simple Flow Switch at the Electrochlorination Plant. Then it failed for a few times which we need to do the repeat order the old flow switch even though it is easily damaged by strong chemical or specifically chlorine. Last week one of OEM parts and specialize about this product do the testing. Currently it has shown positive signal meaning that the thing can work there.

A coal processing power plant always create problems during coaling to the bunker. The main problem that normally happened on our instrumentation field device is a difficulty to monitor coal bunker level when coaling or during receiving unprocessed coal to the bin either the level will fluctuating or just static at the certain level. The ultrasonic signal or any wave will affected by surface angle, air turbulence, temperature and spray dust. Therefore the reading will unstable for the sometimes. RWE Group, Germany's largest power producer, got approval from the local government to build its planned 2 billion-euro 1,600 megawatt power plant coming weeks in Hamm.

"The power station, built in cooperation with 23 municipal utilities, will consist of two blocks. The first is planned to go online in 2011 and the second in 2012.

The approval comes after RWE had to cancel plans to build a power plant in the western German state Saarland in November after local protests."

My desktop computer hang up for unreasonable problem suddenly. After checking, this is what I saw on the screen. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del.

Found CPU usage 99% and adobeupdater.exe caused the problem happened. After that just press End Process Tab. The problem disappeared. But after sometimes, my computer hang up again and the things came back. My friend guess it came from the adobe software itself. I am just untick the adobe auto update. Open adobe reader → Edit→ Preference → Internet → Untick downloading the background. Meaning it wouldn't update automatically. Just for a temporary solution seems that problem happened because of the conflict. I am too lazy to find out what actually caused the problem. Then my PC became normal as usual.
